Each Parrish player scored a basket, with Barry Hill leading the with 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Isaac Chatman followed with 16 points, eight rebounds and a blocked shot. Noah Ard had nine points and both Denzell Daley and Jermichael Harris scored eight points.
Jonathan Softley led the Blue Devils with eight points on the night.
Parrish’s defense held Cordova scoreless in the first period while putting up 21 points offensively for the 21-0 lead.
The Blue Devils scored their first points of the contest with 5:48 remaining in the half, but the Tornadoes remained in command following a 15-7 run for the 36-7 halftime advantage. Parrish held Cordova to just baskets during the opening half.
Parrish’s offense and defense continued to click throughout the third period, mounting a 25-10 run to stay on top, 61-17. The Blue Devils managed only two points in the hot clock-shortened fourth period, with the Tornadoes adding 11 points for the 72-19 final.
“That’s three games in a row where everybody scored,” Parrish coach Heath Burns said. “I’m really pleased with our defensive effort. The guys are really starting to grasp what we want to do with our full-court pressure and our half-court pressure. That allowed us to get some easy baskets.”
Parrish hosts the Marion County Red Raiders in an area showdown tonight, while Cordova travels to Hamilton for an area battle.
The Tornadoes also host Carbon Hill on Saturday.
No. 10 Cordova 41, Parrish 39
The 10th-ranked Cordova Lady Blue Devils overcame a fourth-period surge from the visiting Parrish Tornadoes to clinch a 41-39 victory on Thursday at Cordova.
Jessica Willingham scored 21 points to lead the Blue Devils, while Alexis Cooper recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tornadoes had good contributions from Ciara Hubbard, who led the team with 18 points, and Mekya Hill who scored 16 points.
Cordova took charge of the game after breaking a 7-7 first period tie with a 7-0 run for the 14-7 advantage. Parrish closed the lead to five points following a 13-9 second period run, but the Blue Devils retained a 25-20 halftime edge.
The Blue Devils extended their lead to 10 following an 11-6 third period run, 36-26. Parrish went on a 13-5 run in the fourth period, but two successful free-throws by Willingham in the final seconds of the game allowed Cordova to clinch the 41-39 win.
