John Lloyd Howard, 86, of Empire, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Princeton Baptist Medical Center. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a special hero to many. He was retired from Ryder Truck Rental after 29 years of service.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Rev. T.J. Millican, Rev. Mark Brand and Rev. Marlin Eddy will officiate, Burial will follow in the New Horizon Memorial Gardens. Visitation is today 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Bertie Howard; sister, Ola Mae Mims; grandchildren, Kevin and Aubrey Howard; in-laws, Rufus and Lena Jay; brothers-in-law, John Edward and Mickey Jay; and sisters-in-law, June Wallace and Jean Gamble.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sharon Jane Howard; sons, Buddy Howard (Nelda) of Empire, Danny Howard (Angela) of Sumiton and John Michael Howard (Cindy) of Dora; daughters, Donna Jett (Ricky) of Dora and Linda Glass (Bud) of Acworth, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Virgil Howard (Peggy) of Moody and Wesley Howard (Angela) of Riverside; sisters-in-law, Patsy Conner, Lila Farr, Rita Hamrick (Bruce) and Sandra Yow (Jimmy) all of Empire; brother-in-law, Donald Jay (Joan) of Empire; and countless other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Robby, Skyler, Michael, Brett and Jonathan Howard and Cody and Kyle Jett.
