Fourteen players scored points in the game for the Vikings and eight different players knocked down 3-pointers.
Next up for Walker is the area tournament championship game against Hayden set for 6 p.m. on Monday.
Hayden advanced with a 66-59 win over Mortimer Jordan in Friday’s opener.
After beating Curry by 84 points in their last meeting, the Vikings followed suit with a torrid first half against the Yellow Jackets.
Walker led 27-4 after the first quarter and 58-21 at the half. The Vikings led 74-32 after three quarters.
Ja’Ray McElrath led the team with 14 points, Aaron Morris had 12 points, Kenyatta Woods had 10 points, Myron Mitchell had nine points, Lane Davenport put in eight, Jonathan McCants had seven and both Brandon Thursby and Adam Nation added six points.
For Curry (2-23), Jaxon Aaron had 11 points.
Walker (16-10) defeated Hayden in both regular-season games this year.
Class 4A, Area 8 Tournament
DORA — Carbon Hill will get a fourth chance at beating Dora.
Both teams advanced to the championship game of the Class 4A, Area 8 Tournament at Dora High School on Friday.
Dora had its way against Oak Grove, in a dominant 79-47 win in the nightcap, while Carbon Hill rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Corner 49-42 in the opening game of the day.
The teams will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday in the area tournament championship game.
Dora won both regular-season games against Carbon Hill and also beat the Bulldogs in the Walker County Tournament.
Carbon Hill 49, Corner 42
Carbon Hill more than doubled its halftime total in the third quarter for a come-from-behind 49-42 win over the Yellow Jackets.
The Bulldogs (17-12) scored just five points in the second quarter and trailed 19-16 at the half before exploding for 24 points in the third quarter.
Led by Gerald Smith’s third-quarter push, Carbon Hill led 40-33 going into the final quarter.
Corner got within four points in the final quarter, but got no closer as the Bulldogs ended Corner’s season.
Smith finished with a game-high 22 points while Nathan Johnson added 11 and Chandler Gann put in nine.
For Corner, Dylan Hand had 12 points and Michael Smith added 10.
With the win, Carbon Hill can turn its attention to Dora.
“I like to believe we can steal one from Dora,” Carbon Hill coach Robert Epps said. “We will have to limit turnovers and get some scoring inside. The main thing is that we have to play at our pace. If we do that we’ll have a chance.”
Dora 79, Oak Grove 47
Dora wasted no time taking care of Oak Grove, outscoring the Tigers 24-7 in the opening quarter.
The Bulldogs (22-7) added to their lead from there.
Dora held a commanding 39-15 lead at the half and the Bulldogs were up 56-33 going into the final quarter.
Kenton Petties led the team with 17 points, 10 assists and five steals, Darian Ramsey had 14 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, DeKari Swain and Logan Roberts each had 12 points while Kelan Bell added 10.
“I was very pleased with the effort and intensity the guys came out with tonight,” Dora coach Michael Bridges said. “We wanted to establish the tempo of the game and execute our sets. I’m proud of this group of guys for the way they carry themselves on and off the court. This was a good win and everyone contributed. We have to turn our attention to Carbon Hill because I know they will come ready to play on Monday.”
Other area tournaments
Four local teams had their seasons come to an end on Friday.
In Class 1A, Addison dropped its game to Decatur Heritage 71-55.
Both Cordova and Winston County lost their 3A area games at Winfield on Friday. Cordova dropped a 81-36 decision while Hamilton defeated Winston County 60-21.
Oakman lost to Cold Springs 71-66 in its 2A area game at Lamar County.
GIRLS AREA TOURNAMENTS
Walker 57, Mortimer Jordan 47
Walker’s girls earned a playoff spot with a 57-47 win over Mortimer Jordan on Friday in the Class 5A, Area 13 Tournament at Hayden High School.
The Vikings face Hayden today at 3 p.m. in the area tournament championship game. Today’s winner hosts a sub-region playoff game while the loser travels.
Against Mortimer Jordan, Walker held the Blue Devils without a field goal in the final quarter. The Vikings (13-10) led throughout the game. They were up 14-13 after the first quarter and 33-28 at the half. They pushed the lead to 46-39 after three quarters.
Sidney Cooper had 16 of her game-high 23 points in the second half. Both Madisyn Hood and Mary Kate Harrell had 10 points for Walker. Shannie Johnson had seven points and Anna Claire Harris had six.
Hayden advanced with a 58-16 win over Curry on Friday.
Carbon Hill 75, Oak Grove 15
Carbon Hill breezed to the Class 4A, Area 8 Tournament championship game with a 60-point rout of Oak Grove on Friday at Carbon Hill High School.
The Bulldogs will take on Corner, a 43-42 winner over Dora, in today’s championship game at 6 p.m.
Savanna Lawson led a balanced Carbon Hill attack with 22 points, Korey Tidwell added 13, Caroline Dodd had 10 points, nine steals and five assists, Cierra Harbin had nine points, Katie Moore put in seven, Molli Clark added five, Destiny Owens had four and both Abby Tittle and Holli Gaddy put in two points.
Carbon Hill (22-8) led 20-2 after the first quarter and 36-6 at the half.
“We really didn’t get much out of tonight, but everyone got to play and contributed in some way,” Carbon Hill coach Wade Tittle said. “I hope we are ready on Saturday, this is the next game and it’s for an area championship so I think we will be. We need folks to come out and support us, these kids deserve it.”
Other area tournaments
Cordova’s season came to an end at Winfield High School on Friday. Hamilton knocked off the Blue Devils 59-49 in their 3A game. In Class 2A, Cold Springs eliminated Oakman 72-24.
