The Walker County chapter of the Literacy Council will host its fifth annual Daddy-Daughter Dance on Thursday.

The dance will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Glen Clem Gymnasium on the Jasper campus of Bevill State Community College.

Tickets are $5 per person. All proceeds will be used for local literacy projects.

“We wanted to do a fun event to get the community involved and get information out about the Literacy Council. This was one of those ideas that came up, and it just continues to grow,” said Chandra Rice, coordinator for the Walker County council.

Fathers and daughters of any age are welcome to attend the dance.

A professional photographer will be on hand to take snapshots of the couples.

The event will also include a raffle, and several books will be given away throughout the night.

Members of the Junior Board, a group of high school students who assist the local Literacy Council, will be in attendance as well.

Because of the popularity of the Daddy-Daughter Dance, the Literacy Council will be hosting its first event for mothers and sons later this year.
