The Kiwanis Club of Jasper will host its second Kiwanis Pancake Day breakfast Saturday from 7 until 11:30 a.m. in the cafeteria on the Jasper campus of Bevill State Community College. The menu includes pancakes and sausage with a choice of drink (milk, juice, soft drinks or coffee).

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from any Kiwanis Club member or at the door the day of the event. Carry-out plates are available.

“This is our major fundraiser for the year,” said Emily Donaldson, a Kiwanis Club member serving as chairman of this year’s pancake breakfast. “The best part is this is a great way to get the community involved. Obviously, our mission is serving the children of the world, and this is a great way to raise money and have people come in and kind of see what we as Kiwanis Club members do.”

The Kiwanis Pancake Day will also feature entertainment (music, singing and dancing) from several local groups throughout the morning.

Last year, more than 700 people came out for the breakfast. Organizers of the event are hoping for a larger turnout this year.

“We’re hoping to have more this year,” Donaldson said. “Last year was the first time we had changed it to a Saturday morning instead of our traditional Friday afternoon during Walker’s homecoming, but it still was a great turnout.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit several local charities, including Daybreak, Walker County Track and Field Day, Arc of Walker County, the Daily Mountain Eagle Shoe Fund, Key Clubs at Walker, Cordova and Curry high schools, the BUG programs at T.R. Simmons, Memorial Park and West Jasper elementary schools, Share a Toy and local scouting groups.
