Eagles earn four wins at Auburn tourney

The Sumiton Christian Eagles finished 4-1 in the Auburn Invitational Tournament over the weekend. Sumiton Christian defeated Auburn, Hazel Green, Brewbaker Tech and Dadeville before falling to Thompson. The Eagles host Dora at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Sumiton Christian knocked off a pair of 6A teams en route to finishing 4-1 in the Auburn Invitational Softball Tournament over the weekend.

The Class 1A Eagles defeated Auburn (3-1), Hazel Green (3-1), Brewbaker Tech (7-0) and Dadeville (11-2) before falling to Thompson (2-0).

Jenna Ergle had a big tournament for the Eagles, belting a pair of home runs and pitching Sumiton Christian to a pair of wins. Kendall Beth Sides also won two games.

Against Auburn, Kirsten Click led the way, going 2 for 3 with all three RBIs. Ergle, Katlyn Sides, Kendell Hamm and Abbie Brewster added hits. Kendall Beth Sides earned the win, allowing two hits and striking out two.

Ergle was 2 for 2 with a home run in the victory over Hazel Green. She also earned the win, allowing two hits and striking out two. Hamm, Katlyn Sides and Kendall Beth Sides added hits.

Against Brewbaker Tech, Katlyn Sides was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Hamm was 1 for 2 with two RBIs,  both Savanah Langston and Ergle were 2 for 3, Kendall Beth Sides and Brewster added hits while Jessie Boone and Abby Bice had RBIs. Ergle got the win, throwing three no-hit innings. Ashtin DeLuca went the final inning, striking out two.

Against Dadeville, Ergle was 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the way.

Kendall Beth Sides was 2 for 3 with two stolen bases, Hamm and Emily Godwin were both 1 for 2 with two RBIs, Boone was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Brewster was 1 for 3 with an RBI and both Langston and Click added hits.

Kendall Beth Sides got the win, striking out two and allowing four hits in three innings. DeLuca went the final inning.

In the loss to Thompson, Kendall Beth Sides was 1 for 3 with two stolen bases. Katlyn Sides and Brewster also had hits. Ergle took the loss, allowing five hits and striking out three.

Sumiton Christian (5-1) hosts Dora at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
