Gerald Luther (Gerry) Robinson, 77, of Coarsegold, Calif., passed away Friday, March 14, 2014.

A celebration of life was held in Coarsegold on March 29, 2014. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at East Walker Church of Christ in Dora. Following the service, family and friends will gather in the church’s fellowship hall for lunch. A private service will follow at the cemetery for the family.

Gerald was born in Dora on Jan. 22, 1937. He graduated from Dora High School in 1955. He attended Samford University, served in the U.S. Army and then graduated from the University of Arizona. He worked 40 years for Aerospace Industries as a purchasing manager.

In 1979, Gerald and his wife, Martha, formed the Carrousel of Clowns. The Carrousel of Clowns performed in hospitals and other care facilities. The Robinsons formed their own company, Apple Dandy Parties, entertaining as Molly and Luther. A study room at Cal State Northridge’s Oviatt Library is named in their honor and displays their clown memorabilia.

Gerald, a UCLA heart transplant recipient, lived for 15 years to spread cheer to other transplant patients.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Edith Robinson; and brother, Timothy S. Robinson.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha Taylor Robinson; his sister, Terah (Bob) Sherer of Jasper; brothers, Michael (Carolyn) Robinson of Maylene and Nelson (Connie) Robinson of Dora; sister-in-law, Janet Andrew of Warren, Mich.; two uncles, Horace Sumner of Martinez, Calif., and Bryceon Sumner of Tucker, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
