The Yellow Jackets did retire him once.
That was the only blemish for Wade, who hit a grand slam and drove in seven runs in the Vikings’ 23-1, five-inning area victory at Curry High School.
Wade finished 2 for 3 with a double, three runs and three stolen bases to go along with his home run and seven RBIs.
That was more than enough offense for pitcher Bailey Tidwell who allowed one unearned run on one hit and three walks. Tidwell gave up the hit with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Walker (12-17 overall, 2-2 in Class 5A, Area 12) scored two runs in each of the first two innings before batting around nearly twice in a 12-run third inning. The Vikings scored seven runs more in the fourth inning.
Walker won its opener over Curry 10-0 at home on Tuesday.
On Thursday, Wade wasn’t the only one to put up statistics for Walker.
John Michael Reed was 1 for 1 with two runs, two stolen bases and three RBIs, Bryant Atkins was 2 for 4 with a stolen base, three runs and an RBI, Jackson Holliday was 1 for 1 with two runs and an RBI, Baylee Royster was 1 for 1 with a run and an RBI, Chandler Crump was 1 for 2 with a run and Tidwell was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Walker also took advantage of 10 walks and eight hit batters.
Tyler Woodley had Curry’s hit.
Jarrod Owens took the loss on the mound.
The Vikings host both Sumiton Christian and Winfield at Valley Park on Saturday.
Walker plays Sumiton Christian at 11 a.m., Sumiton Christian plays Winfield at 1 and Walker plays Winfield at 3 p.m.
With Thursday’s win, Walker is in good position to earn a playoff berth.
The Vikings need one win over Hayden next week to clinch the No. 2 spot in the area behind Mortimer Jordan, which is 4-0 in area play.
Walker hosts Hayden on Tuesday and plays a double header at Hayden on Thursday.
Sumiton Christian 17, Parrish 2, five inn.
Both Spencer Black and Austin Bice drove in four runs and the Sumiton Christian Eagles improved to 5-1 in 1A, Area 10 play with a 17-2 win at Parrish on Thursday.
Bice earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out three in three innings. Grant Shepard went the final two innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out two.
Black finished 2 for 3 at the plate with two runs and four RBIs, Bice was 2 for 4 with a run and four RBIs and Tristan Weldon had a triple and a run.
Sumiton Christian (9-7) plays a pair of games at Walker on Saturday. The Eagles face the Vikings at 11 a.m. and follow with a game against Winfield.
Sumiton Christian won its junior high game, beating Maddox’s seventh-grade team 6-2.
For the Eagles, Chandler Overton and Jarrett McClain combined to throw a one-hitter.
Cooper Boyd, Overton, McClain and Peyton Alexander each had hits for the Eagles.
Cordova splits with Hamilton
Hamilton earned a series win over Cordova after splitting a double header at Cordova High School on Thursday.
Cordova lost the series opener to the Aggies on the road Tuesday. The Blue Devils bounced back with a 4-3 win in Thursday’s opener before dropping an 8-7 decision in the tie-breaker game.
In the opener, Clark Chance threw a complete game, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out two.
Hunter Gilmore delivered the game-winning hit, a three-run double, in the fifth inning to put Cordova ahead. Taylor Trotter led the team at the plate, going 3 for 3. Cam Honeycutt was 2 for 4.
In the second game, Cordova (14-8, 3-1) fell behind 3-0 after the first inning, but notched the score at 3-3 in the second.
The Blue Devils led 7-4 after a three-run fourth, but the Aggies scored two in the bottom of the fourth to cut the gap to 7-6. Hamilton added single runs in the sixth and seventh to earn the win.
For Cordova, Taylor Trotter was 3 for 5 with an RBI, Logan Shumate was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Jed Cordell had a two-run double, Garrett Woods had an RBI triple and Jeffre Wingo added an RBI single..
Cordova plays Cleveland and Leeds on Saturday.
