Investigation underway in fatal shooting in Carbon Hill

Investigators with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office are working with Carbon Hill police today to try to find the person responsible for a fatal shooting in the city some time Thursday.

Morris Gene Ervin 67, was found dead in his home at 559 Fourth Ave. Northeast just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday by a friend.

Tim Thomas of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office said police were called at approximately 9:30 p.m. and found Ervin dead of a single gunshot wound.

Thomas said investigators are unsure of a motive for the crime.

A thorough investigation is underway to try to find Ervin’s killer.
