The Walker boys are in the middle of the pack as a team, but still have a chance to earn individual state championships.
On the girls side, St. Paul’s holds the lead after Day 1 with a 40-point total. Walker is in second place with 38 points followed by Muscle Shoals with 34 points.
Five Walker players made today’s semifinals. No. 1 Kallie Beall, No. 3 Lexie Dillard, No. 4 Olivia Hayes, No. 5 Sarah Katherine Warren and No. 6 Abby Hayes play pivotal matches today.
All three doubles teams are alive as well — the No. 1 team of Beall and Dillard, the No. 2 team of Jeana Burton and Warren and the No. 3 team of Abby and Olivia Hayes. All three teams won matches Thursday with the No. 1 team fighting off two match points to earn a 6-1, 6-7, 7-6 victory.
Today’s matches start at 8 a.m.
In singles play, Walker’s Beall faces Briarwood’s Ashley Ochsenhirt in the No. 1 semifinals.
Other girls matches are: No. 3 Dillard vs. St. Paul’s Seline Morrissette, No. 4 Olivia Hayes vs. Muscle Shoals’ Averi Renfroe, No. 5 Warren vs. Cullman’s Kacie Donaldson and No. 6 Abby Hayes vs. St. Paul’s Lily Myers.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Beall/Dillard faces Muscle Shoals, the No. 2 team of Burton/Warren takes on Benjamin Russell and the No. 3 team of Olivia and Abby Hayes battles Briarwood.
On the boys side, two players are still in contention in singles play — No. 4 Eli Matthew and No. 5 Ned Sanders. The No. 2 doubles team of Andrew Wiginton and Matthews also advanced to today’s semifinals.
