Defending state champion Hayden didn’t make it out of the tournament. The No. 1-ranked Wildcats, who lost to Curry 12-6 on Friday night, lost their opener Saturday to Mortimer Jordan in an elimination game.
No. 2 Curry then routed the Blue Devils 11-1 for the area tournament title.
The Yellow Jackets (41-7) will play Springville in the North-Central Regional Tournament in Tuscaloosa on Friday.
Against Mortimer Jordan, Curry scored one run in the first inning, one run in the second inning, two more in the third and seven in the fourth to finish off the Blue Devils in five innings.
Shannan Rowe finished 3 for 3 with two runs and four RBIs to lead the Curry attack.
Katie Justice and Ashlee Swindle combined to fire a three-hitter in the win. They struck out four batters and allowed a walk in five innings.
Curry got on the scoreboard when Ella Banks singled and scored on Gabby Englebert’s ground out in the first inning.
In the seven-run fourth inning, Shannan Rowe and Shuana Rowe each had two RBIs. Haleigh Lane and Justice added RBI hits as well.
Season ends for Carbon Hill girls
Corner elimianted Carbon Hill from the Class 4A, Area 8 Tournament at Oak Grove on Friday.
The Bulldogs, who won both regular-season meetings against the Yellow Jackets in dominant fashion, fell to Corner 10-0, ending Carbon Hill's season.
Oak Grove went on to win the tournament, defeating Corner 7-4 in the championship game.
Both teams will play in the regional tournament at Troy next week.
