Jasper police are investigating a late-night-drive-by shooting that left a Jasper man with life-threatening injuries Thursday night.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday, someone fired shots that struck 21-year-old Jamarcus Carey.

The shooting happened on 25th Street near Coke Oven Park.

Carey was taken by private vehicle to Walker Baptist Medical Center with a serious gunshot wound. He was later airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Eric Oliver, an investigator with the Jasper Police Department, said Friday afternoon Carey was listed in stable condition.

A motive for the shooting was not known, and Oliver said police are looking for at least one person he deemed a “person of interest.”
