Maude worked, at various times, as an elementary teacher, including seven years as a teacher at United Cerebral Palsy in Birmingham. She also served as a Bible teacher for 20 plus years. Children adored Maude. She was known for that, for her heart full of love, for the way she would frequently burst into song, for her talkativeness and for her love of desserts. She never lost her zeal for life.

Her last six months were spent in Ridgeview Health Services and/or Harbor Chase Assisted Living in Jasper where she made many new friends and “family.”

Maude was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James W. Bell; her parents, Lee and Maud Crowder; one brother, Malcolm; and six sisters, Virginia, Idell, Velma, Bartow, Lois and Louise.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Totsy Bell Wright (Harry Jr.), and Saundra Bell Herren (Ben); her “oldest daughter” (a niece) Gay Wood Kerlin; four grandchildren, Harry Wright III, Susan Herren Kuehner, Robert Wright and Emily Herren Franklin; and four great-grandchildren.
