Wyatt E. Prestridge, 92, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, at his home in Silver Springs, Florida, with his family by his side. He was born in Lineville, Alabama, on June 23, 1921, to Aldon D. and Lillian M. Prestridge. He was the oldest of nine children.

Wyatt served in the U.S. Army for 24 years. He was a decorated veteran of WWII and the Korean War and was a POW for 33 months. He retired in Homestead, Florida, and went to work for Dade County Park Recreation and retired after eight years.

He raised five children on his own and could say he did a pretty good job. “But, then as the only girl, I was spoiled. That’s what my brothers always tell me,” his daughter Suzanne said. “Dad was a great gardener and fisherman. Give him a cutting or seed, it would grow, give him a fishing pole, he’d catch them. He really loved fishing with his sons, son-in-law, grandkids and his brother.”

Wyatt is survived by four sons, Mitchell (Lillian), Michael (Mary), Terry, and Keith (Gloria); one daughter, Suzanne Baker (Mike); 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Nelson, Alta Mae Buchanan, Melda Faye Green, Annie Paul Norris mand Betty Sue Humphries; and brother, James A. Prestridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evon and Minnie; and his grandson, Mitchell Prestridge.
