Wyatt served in the U.S. Army for 24 years. He was a decorated veteran of WWII and the Korean War and was a POW for 33 months. He retired in Homestead, Florida, and went to work for Dade County Park Recre- ation and retired after 18 years.
He raised five children on his own and could say he did a pretty good job. “But, then as the only girl, I was spoiled. That’s what my brothers always tell me,” his daughter Suzanne said. “Dad was a great gardener and fisherman. Give him a cutting or seed, it would grow. Give him a fishing pole, he’d catch them. He really loved fishing with his sons, son-in-law, grandkids and his brother.”
Wyatt is survived by four sons, Mitchell (Lillian), Michael (Mary), Terry and Keith (Gloria); one daughter, Suzanne Baker (Mike); 12 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; sisters, Lois Nelson, Alta Mae Buchanan, Melda Faye Green, Annie Paul Norris and Betty Sue Humphries; and brother, James A. Prestridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evon and Minnie; and his grandson, Mitchell Pre- stridge.
