The funeral service will be today, June 29, 2014, at 3 p.m. in the chapel at Collins-Burke Funeral Home with Brother Scott McCullar of Carbon Hill First Baptist Church officiating.
Visitation will be today before the funeral service from 1 until 3 p.m. in the chapel at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Townley.
Brown was born in Jasper on April 28, 1930, to Edgar C. Avery Sr. and Pernie Mae Lankford Avery. Brown was married to Louie Howard Brown Sr. on Aug. 9, 1948, and they were married until his passing in 1985.
Brown had a love of learning, a strong faith, and a strong work ethic, all of which she passed to her family. She retired from Burton Manufacturing after many loyal years. She was currently serving as a substitute teacher with the Carbon Hill School System and was beloved by the students, as well as the teachers. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching and sharing her love of learning. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with family including her grands, greats, and great-great grandchildren. She was actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Carbon Hill. She was a former member, and greatly missed, the First Baptist Church of Townley.
Brown is survived by her loving family which includes her son, Howard Brown and his wife, Judy; grandchildren, Anessa Wright and her husband, Chris, Jason Brown and his wife, Sue, and Rebecca Victory and her husband, Richard; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Drew, Jake, Tyler, Kailey; great-great-grandchild, Carson Reid; and sister, Elizabeth Prado and her husband, Dr. William Prado, of Little Rock, Arkansas; along with a host of other special relatives and friends, too numerous to name one-by-one.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Howard Brown Sr.; daughter, Beverly Kaye Brown; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar C. Avery Sr.; her sisters, Pernie Mae King, Sue Avery Edwards, Janet Avery and Dorothy Avery; and her brother, Edger C. “Sonny” Avery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Brown, Dustin Keeton, Drew Wright, Chris Wright, Richard Victory and Bo Meachem.
