There won’t be a repeat champion at the 47th annual Travis Hudson/Bernard Weinstein Invitational starting today at the Musgrove Country Club golf course.
John O’Toole, who won last year’s event by a stroke, isn’t in this year’s field.
There are plenty of favorites looking to take his place, including five-time tournament winner Steve Hudson, who placed fifth in last year’s event. He last won the tournament in 2010.
Andrew Lee, who made a late charge in the final round last year only to come up one stroke short of O’Toole, also returns as well as Matt Gourgeot, who placed third in last year’s event, two strokes behind the leader. Micah Jett is also back looking for the tournament title. Jett led through two rounds last year only to come up short on Sunday.
A total of 115 golfers hit the course today.
The morning group tees off on both the first and 10th tees starting at 8:20 a.m.
Hudson, Jett and Gourgeot start in the early group today while Lee tees off in the late group, which starts at 12:30 p.m. The final foursomes will tee off at 1:30 p.m.
In last year’s event, the scores went up as the tournament progressed. Eleven golfers shot under par in the opening round, followed by seven golfers in the second round and just three in the final round.
“It’s going to be a great event,” Musgrove Country Club golf pro Phil Green said. “The course is in the best shape it’s ever been in. It’s looking like a good weekend with the weather. It should be a great tournament.”
