Max W. Perdue, 76, of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010, Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper.

Funeral services will be today, June 10, 2010, at 2 p.m., in the Kilgore-Green Funeral Home Chapel in Jasper with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Charles W. Powell will officiate. Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper will direct.

Visitation will be today, June 10, 2010, from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Max graduated from the University of Alabama BSEE in May 1961. He served in the United States Navy from 1953-1957. He was a Registered Professional Engineer No. 9834 in Alabama. He began his career with Alabama Power Company in 1961 and retired in 1991 as Jasper district manager.

He was very civic minded and served his community by participating in the following organizations: He served as president of the Jasper Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow, chairman of the Walker County Chapter of the American Red Cross, president and treasurer of The Chamber of Commerce, president of the Advisory Council-RSVP, chairman of the Walker County United Way Campaign, member of the Black Warrior Council Boy Scouts of America, Sustaining Membership Chairman, Mountain District, Boy Scouts of America, and chairman of the Mountain District Boy Scouts Capital Campaign.

He spent 20 years as a cattle farmer. He also served on Pinnacle Bank’s Board of Directors for 16 years.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, Cottie and Dovie Perdue; and brother, Ivon C. Perdue.

He is survived by his wife, Mary G. Perdue of Jasper; children, Lynn Perdue Gray and husband John A. Jr. of Tuscaloosa, and Karen Perdue Crump and husband Dr. John R. “Bubba” of Jasper; grandchildren, Jack Gray, Emma Gray, J. Michael Crump, and Bryson Crump; brother, Danny R. Perdue and wife Alinda of Crane Hill; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
