A Parrish man who left his child strapped in his car while he was drinking inside a bar in Jefferson County was arrested Thursday night.

Authorities said that Justin Jamie Capps, 27, was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct for becoming combative once deputies arrived at the bar located just across the Walker/ Jefferson County line. Capps was taken to the Jefferson County Jail before being released after posting a $4,000 bond.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy Randy Christian said authorities are also considering child endangerment charges.

Christian said the club owner was told by a customer that the child had been heard crying inside the car while Capps was inside drinking. After the club owner found the 2-year-old inside the 2004 Pontiac Vibe, he was confronted by Capps. The club owner informed Capps that he had called the sheriff’s office and by the time deputies arrived on the scene Capps had taken his son out of the car and was walking down the middle of Warrior-Jasper Road in the direction of Bankhead Highway.

The child is now in the custody of its mother.
