In his continued effort to add another chapter to his storied history in Alabama politics, Jim Folsom Jr., the lieutenant governor of Alabama, will be campaigning today in Jasper.

Folsom, a Democrat who is seeking re-election, will be at Ryan’s Family Steakhouse at 12 p.m. today.

The restaurant is located on Highway 78 in Jasper.

In November, Folsom will face Kay Ivey, the Republican winner in the June 1 Republican primary. Because of his lack of opposition, Folsom was not required to take part in the Democratic primary, which also was held in June.

Jim Lakey, chairman of the Democratic Party of Walker County, said Folsom will be seeking voters support as well as contributions to his campaign y at today’s speaking engagement.

“People who desire to contribute to his campaign will have an opportunity to do so,” Lakey said.

Folsom, nor Chip Hall, Folsom’s director of external affairs, could be reached for comment Wednesday.

Prior to his election as lieutenant governor in 2006, Folsom, followed the footsteps of his father, James E. “Big Jim” Folsom Sr., when he became the state’s 50th governor.

“Little Jim,” who served as lieutenant governor from 1987 to 1993, completed the term of Gov. Guy Hunt who was removed from office after he was convicted of state ethics law violations.

However, the junior Folsom was beat in his bid for a full term as governor by Fob James in 1994. He re-entered Alabama politics in 2006 when he defeated Republican attorney Luther Strange in the general election.
