An unidentified driver lost control of her vehicle Friday morning and slammed into the front doors of the Regions Bank located in front of the Jasper Mall.

Jasper fire chief Calvin Kluesner said the driver of the Chevrolet Impala was an elderly woman. He said she ran off the road just past the entrance of Northside Baptist Church. After leaving the road, she went between a power pole and a guide wire before driving into the bank. The incident happened around 7:30 Friday morning.

The woman sustained only minor injuries in the crash.

“The Good Lord was looking out for her,” Kluesner said. “The way she came through was the only way that it could have happened without her getting seriously injured.”

The bank was closed Friday due to the damage. There was no one inside the bank at the time of the crash. Regions Bank communications representative Evelyn Mitchell said officials spent most of the day Friday assessing the damage to the facility.

Mitchell said the bank will be closed today, but the remote drive through will be open. She said the bank will reopen Monday morning.

“We are working to have the bank ready to open Monday morning,” Mitchell said. “Our customers may also go to www.regions.com or call 1-800-REGIONS if they need any type of assistance while the bank is closed.”
