The church is on a mission to save more than just par.
First Baptist will hold its Fourth Annual In His Grip Golf Invitational on Friday, at Musgrove Country Club.
The tournament is geared toward a day of golf and fellowship.
The tournament is a christian sports program for men and was designed improve their game on and off the course. Its was also developed for fun, friendly competition and to share an encouraging life message.
It is conducted by churches around the country.
“This tournament is not just about golf, its about life lessons,” said Jim Wilson, the chairman of the deacons. “We always have a good time and hopefully, we can introduce some of these guys to God. If just one man comes to find Christ, the tournament is a huge success. We’ve done just that in the past and as always, we hope to again.”
Jasper’s tournament will be a four-person scramble. Entry fees are $75 per golfer.
Registration starts at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon.
Over $3,000 in prizes will be given away. Anyone interested can contact First Baptist at 221-6444 or Jim Wilson at 483-1000. All proceeds from the event go to contribute back to next year’s tournament.
Dr. James Merritt, a world-wide recognized pastor and avid golfer, will be present at the event and will also be speaking at First Baptist at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Dr. James Merritt is the host of Touching Lives international broadcast ministries. He is also the founder and Senior Pastor of Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, Georgia. His greatest passion, and the call of his heart, is leading men, women, boys and girls around the world to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Saved at the age of nine and accepting God’s call to preach at twenty-one, Dr. Merritt earned an undergraduate degree from Stetson University and his Master of Divinity and Doctorate of Philosophy degrees from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
