That will change this season, though it won’t count in the standings.
Walker will host the Blue Devils in a fall jamboree game set for Friday, Aug. 20 at Ki-Ro Gambrell Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
It will be the first meeting between the two schools since a 14-0 Walker victory over Cordova in 1962, well before either school’s current coach was born.
Both teams have enjoyed success in recent years.
Cordova is coming off a third straight trip to the Class 3A championship game. The Blue Devils are 39-6 over the last three years. Pete Bush has led Cordova each of the last two seasons.
Walker is 28-8 over the same span under coach John Holladay, who has guided the Vikings to the playoffs each season.
Walker and Cordova met in the regular season from 1937 to 1962. Walker won the last 11 meetings in the series and holds a 23-7-2 mark against the Blue Devils all-time.
Both teams will open up the regular season the following week with Thursday games. Walker travels to Northridge while Cordova hosts Dora.
The Walker-Cordova jamboree is one of three games matching schools in Walker County.
Also on Friday, Aug. 20, Carbon Hill is set to play Oakman. The game is scheduled on paper, but is pending until a Carbon Hill coach is hired.
Sumiton Christian will play at Parrish, also on the 20th. Other Friday games include: Lynn at Winston County and Curry at Chelsea.
Two other area schools will play on Thursday, Aug. 19th with Dora traveling to Mortimer Jordan and Meek playing at Cold Springs.
