Cannon elected new chairman of state auto dealers group

Jasper new car dealer Jim Cannon, 60, was elected chairman of the Automobile Dealers Association of Alabama, Inc. at the organization’s recent convention in Destin, Fla.

Cannon owns Carl Cannon Chevrolet, GMC, Buick in Jasper and has financial interests in new car dealerships in Tuscaloosa and Columbus, Miss.

His Jasper dealership, which opened in December 2008, was one of the first major new businesses to locate on Corridor X which will soon become Interstate 22 running from Birmingham to Memphis.

A graduate of Jacksonville State University, Cannon started working at the family dealership when he was 15 years old, progressing through virtually every job until he succeeded his father 21 years ago as the dealer. His son, Abe Cannon, currently runs the Jasper dealership on a daily basis, but Jim stay active in his dealership interests and community activities.

The Automobile Dealers Association of Alabama, Inc. represents the interests of the state’s 300 new franchised car and truck dealers. Headquartered in Montgomery, Thomas R. Dart, CAE is president and chief operating officer.
