The Walker County Delegation of the Rainy Day Patriots will hold a “God and Country” Rally on Sunday from 4 to 6 p. m. on the Square in downtown.

“The theme of our rally on Sunday is for us to come together with our neighbors, meet our fellow Tea Party Patriots and help spread our message of taking back our country,” said Stanley Brandon of the Rainy Day Patriots. “We’re hoping everyone will come out, enjoy themselves and bring a friend along with them.”

Admission is free to the event, and free hot dogs and watermelon will be offered to those who attend. Ray Benson and the Clear Blue Sky Band will be performing.

Guest speakers for the Rally will include U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville), a new member of the U.S. House of Representative Tea Party Caucus, who represents Alabama’s fourth congressional district.

Also speaking will be Keith Smith, founder of the Frederick Douglass Republicans and the Conservative Messenger website, www.conservativemessenger.com.

The musical performance is set to begin at 4 p.m., with the speakers following from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Jasper City Council on Tuesday approved the closing of 3rd Avenue between 18th and 19th streets beginning at noon Sunday and the closing of 2nd Avenue if needed for the event.

Additional information about the rally can be found at the Walker County Delegation of the Rainy Day Patriot’s website at www.rainydaypatriots.ning.com/group/jasperdelegation.
