Julian was a faithful and dedicated member of Whitson Place Church of Christ, an active supporter on Indian Creek Youth camp, and a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Effie Smallwood; and brothers, Richard Smallwood, Zivery Smallwood, Buster Smallwood; sisters, Bessie Smallwood Bridgewater, and Belle Smallwood Gurganus, and grandson Jace Steadman.
He is survived in death by his wife of 52 years, Fayree Smallwood of Oakman; three sons, Russell (Donna) Smallwood of Jasper, Marc (Julia) Smallwood of Tuscaloosa, and Matt (Suzanne) Smallwood of Savanna, Ga; daughters, Jana (Brian) Kennedy of Jasper and Chandra (Chris) Clark of Northport; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Steadman, Sawyer and Harden Smallwood, Carleigh Clark, Kaiden Kennedy, Savanna, Sidney, and Shelby Smallwood, Kaitlyn Garner and Zac Kennedy; and one brother, Lewis (Pauline) Smallwood.
Pallbearers will be Chis Hyche, Mitchell Smallwood, Ricky Earnest, Vince Smallwood, Jimmy Bridgewater, Leon Gant and Scott Cannon. Honorary pallbearers are Grady Gurganus, Garolyn Gurganus and Raymond Gurganus.
Donations may be made in his memory to Indian Creek Youth Camp or the Flatwoods Cemetery Fund.
