BREMEN — Sumiton Christian rallied from a 9-0 halftime deficit to knock off the Cold Springs Eagles 34-17 in a 2A, Region 7 contest Friday night.

Sumiton Christian got off to a slow start against a Cold Springs team that has now lost 20 straight contests dating back to Week 5 in 2008.

The Eagles rallied behind running back Josh Rouse. He scored on a long touchdown pass and also threw a halfback pass to Ronnie Taylor to put the Eagles up for good.

Sumiton Christian’s defense also picked up the slack in the second half with both Rouse and Austin Roach returning interceptions for touchdowns. The Eagles outscored Cold Springs 34-6 over the final two quarters as the Eagles improved to 4-1, 3-1 on the season.

Sumiton Christian played the game without running back Cody Taylor, who is out with a concussion.

Sumiton Christian won its first meeting ever against Cold Springs.

The Tanner Rattlers will make their way to Sumiton Field next Friday for a big region battle.

Undefeated Tanner defeated West End-Walnut Grove 40-0 Friday and has outscored its opposition 133-0.

Sumiton Christian and Tanner have never met before.
