Michael "Mike" Earl Flippo, 70, of Powder Springs, Georgia, formerly of Carbon Hill, passed away unexpectedly January 9, 2022.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Willodean (Clowers) Goodman and Edward Earl Flippo; and by his stepfather, Jesse Goodman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Cheryl; two daughters, Michele (Joe) Bolduc and Melissa (Dustin) Agnes; grandchildren, Liam, Billie, Oliver, and Lottie; siblings, Judy Flippo Head, Terry Goodman, Tracey Goodman Whitley, and Jimmy Goodman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike graduated from Avondale High School, Georgia, in 1970. After graduation, he served two years in the US Marine Corps. He was hired as a veteran at IBM, where he started by packing and shipping parts and worked his way up to a systems analyst. He retired from IBM in 2008.

Mike will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, sibling, uncle, and friend with a good sense of humor. He played high school football and later played and coached flag football for many years. He was also an amateur movie buff with an excellent memory for details. He could and would tell you everything about a movie, as well as the actors in it. The same with music, he listened to a wide variety of music and never forgot a beat. He loved his grandkids and enjoyed watching his grandsons play baseball on the weekends. He liked to sit on the beach to watch the waves or sit outside listening to music. He did not want much, a simple man that enjoyed life. He will be missed tremendously.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 29 at 11 a.m., at Mayes-Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home Macland Chapel with the Rev. Barry Lancaster officiating. Family will receive visitors between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. A celebration of life gathering will immediately follow at his home in Powder Springs, Georgia.
