Wilma Fay Haynes Best

Wilma Fay Haynes Best, 97 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at her residence.
Family will be receiving friends on Saturday, July 31, 2021, from 1 until 2 p.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Kilgore-Green Chapel, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. George Barrera will officiate. 
Wilma was born November 12, 1923, in Parrish, the youngest of six children. Her family later moved to Oakman where she graduated from Oakman High School in 1942. She moved to Jasper where she worked at Hill’s Grocery and South Central Bell Telephone Co. in downtown Jasper. In 1943, she met Joe Frank Best after he received a discharge from the service. They married in 1944 and moved to Muskegon, Michigan, where they both worked for Continental Aviation which made airplane engines used during World War II. After the war ended, they returned to Jasper, built their home, raised their children, and lived in the same house the rest of their lives. She was a homemaker, worked several years at Butler’s selling Levi Jeans and clothing and worked 40 years for Weight Watchers. She loved working in the garden, growing flowers in her yard, sewing and needlework, reading (97 books her 95th year) and traveling around the world to over 60 countries and 49 states. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. 
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Joe Frank Best; granddaughter, Candice Best; parents, James H. “Jimmy” Haynes, and Vonnie Leigh Higginbotham Haynes; siblings, Verna Banks, Erma Evans Gist, Mildred Thompson, Ora Haynes and Doyle Haynes and her traveling buddy and friend, Evelyn Wood.
She is survived by her children, Diane Best Carmichael, Jeff Best (Chona), Danny Best (Kay); grandchildren, Levi Best, Noah Best, Natalie Carmichael Breeden (Brad), Archie Best (Stacey), Aimee Wells (Michael); great grandchildren, Eli Perry, Dakota Breeden, Maddox Breeden, Devon Breeden, Olivia Wells , Hudson Wells, Owen Wells, Lilly Best and Ivey Pannell (Sam); and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
